Gaustabanen isn’t just a train ride, it’s a journey through history and into adventure. Once a secret NATO route carved deep into the mountain, this unique railway now takes you to the summit of Gaustatoppen in just 15 minutes. It’s the start of something unforgettable, especially if off-piste skiing is your passion!

Freeride and off-piste skiing in Telemark

For freeriders, Gaustatoppen is a dream destination. The legendary Gaustaløypa, a 1.6 km off-piste trail with a story of its own, is a must-ride for freeriders. Thanks to the Gaustabanen, this powder playground is right at your boots. Catch the freshest snow, untouched terrain, and views you’ll never forget.

Opening hours and winter activities

Lifts run daily from 10.00 to 16.00 hrs through January, and until 16.30 hrs from February onwards. Enjoy night skiing under the stars, relax in a traditional lavvo with local food, or unwind in a floating sauna overlooking Gaustatoppen. For children, the Barnas Afterski offers games and music, a fun way to end their day!

Accommodation - comfort and atmosphere

Gausta View Myrestaul is the ideal place for families and groups. Surrounded by pine forests, it features a wood-fired private sauna, ski room, barbecue area, and laundry facilities. Guests can use sleds, snowshoes, and toys during their stay.
